World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.
If the weapon's upgrade template ends in %, it will be able to gain 3percent of its previous damage for every time it's upgraded.
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item level increases.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons and trinkets to provide an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors trading or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must be at least upgraded to the blue level to allow a component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a particular kind of upgrade component that is that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it's used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players make stronger versions of the equipment with less Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade through normal methods.
A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.
Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher tier version of the item will be available at the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear even if they are unsure how much it will be improved after the reset.
If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process could be expensive, and there is a high chance that the item could become obsolete or even break when it fails; a unsuccessful upgrade could destroy Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also offer the player a bonus if they are reinserted.
Glyphs
Glyphs are upgrade components which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs increase the effectiveness of all nodes in their radius, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as you can to level 15.
You will often find in the final game that placing Glyphs is the best way to upgrade your gear. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded to level 15 and provide significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.
Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced, however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install.
Each Glyph has a particular range of values that it can improve a statistic by. The value is displayed when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph with the same rank, or a higher rank, which will boost the value of the Glyph.
You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain tools for gathering unlimited use and also through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt has the possibility of dropping one of the various Glyphs and there are also a few rare Glyphs that can be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.
Once you have the desired Glyphs, you will need to place them on your equipment. item upgrade unlocks a special bonus that will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes that are within the radius of the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats, based on the Glyph.
Glyphs boost all nodes connected to them, therefore it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic places on the Graph. This will increase the impact. Druids for instance, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might also consider placing them near their primary damage nodes.
Leveling
The system of upgrading items allows players to increase the stats of certain items by placing upgraded components in them. This is commonly known as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled up to a maximum of 385 ilvl. Each level of item requires various components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.
Certain upgrades require a certain ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab in crafting tables. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields some Technology Points. These points can be used to level up the item. Once enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When an item is upgraded by a player to a higher level, the original item is replaced with a different item of the same kind. The same armor can be transformed into the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own set bonus. This could be a drawback, as it can make the item more expensive, even if you don't need it.
Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled if the player has enough tokens in order to do so. The item will be replaced by an entirely new item that has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. This is a good idea but it should not be repeated often since it could waste resources.
Certain upgrades can increase their value, allowing players to customize their equipment. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player is repeatedly in and out of the water (or does not swim as dolphins). The item can be upgraded multiple times, increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item can be very valuable in PvP, as an item that is properly rolled it can be worth between 20 and 50 times its value without being upgraded.

Requirements
Item upgrading allows players to boost the level of their available equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate currency and items to an NPC that upgrades items. Upgrading armor set pieces will also increase the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapon items will increase the damage base as well as the required strength and dexterity to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.
All items can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero equipment, which can be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade an object, it is at risk of failing. The rate of failure increases as you move beyond the maximum number. Failures will cause the item to return to its original state, which requires the player to purchase more resources than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.
If an item is not able to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. In addition, the item will lose any bonuses it gained, including crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with the effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or reload speed). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor after the failure.
When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that, should a weapon gain an increase in crit chance it will be applied before any increase in attack damage. Slots is a new attribute that was added to item definitions. The value is calculated each time an upgrade occurs.
The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is based on its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a standard equipment item might have 5 upgrades, each costing 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero grade items have a lower cost per upgrade.
Premium items may have different upgrade requirements from standard gear. For example they may require less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons. Regardless, the player must visit the NPC [Armorthe ] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they wish to upgrade. In addition to the upgrade costs mentioned above, each equipment upgrade requires a different amount of the ingredients for upgrading.
